June 9th at Lube

Please come out and support FOPA on Saturday evening as they take on Quaker Steak & Lube. FOPA is looking to finish out their season on a positive note. FOPA will continue their Lightning shortened early season matchup against the Lube prior to the scheduled game at 6 PM.

Good Luck FOPA, let's get back on track!

May 23rd vs Brookfield Gold

It was a rough Wednesday evening for the boys of FOPA as Brookfield Gold rolled into Wengler Field and handled their business by thumping FOPA 10-0, in a game shortened to four innings by the 10 run rule. FOPA struggled to generate any offense and have now fallen to Brookfield Gold twice by a combined score of 18-0.

Nick Blystone pitched well for 3 innings while Marcel Austin was solid in relief. Neither pitcher received much defensive support as FOPA dropped to 4-4 on the season. Blystone and Fritch both ripped solid singles for FOPA but they were the extent of the offensive attack.

FOPA is now entering the most challenging portion of their schedule and need to put this lackluster effort behind them if they hope to move on and build on this once promising season. The next two matchups against the Lube and the Elks will go a long way to answering the season long question, do they players of FOPA want to win?

May 17th at Hermitage Brewers

Things looked pretty bleak for FOPA early on against the Hermitage Brewers on May 17th. FOPA trailed 5-2 after 1, 10-2 after 2, 11-4 after 3 and 11-6 after 4 innings. FOPA fought back and erupted for two monster five run innings and defeated the Hermitage Brewers 16-13! This was an improbable comeback even though this isn't the first time FOPA has rebounded to win after staring down near insurmountable deficits. Congratulations FOPA on showing the willingness to compete no matter what challenge they are faced with. This was a spectacular game to watch as FOPA's bats woke up just in the nick of time!

C.J. Parchman picked up the win in relief of Caleb Fritch. C.J. kept FOPA in the game long enough for their bats to make a thundering appearance and light up the scoreboard. Lamar Wilder came in to close out the Brewers in the bottom of the six and picked up his first save of the season!

FOPA's bats came alive late in the game but Caleb Fritch led the offensive attack from start to finish. Caleb went 4 for 4 at the plate, scoring 3 runs and knocking in 3 more. Caleb's 3 RBI's in the top of the sixth inning proved to be the difference in the final score! Jamar Leak scored 3 runs and went 3 for 3 at the plate with a triple and 2 RBI's. Nick Blystone doubled and tripled, Marcel Austin singled twice, Kevin Scharba racked up two hits and C.J. Parchman, Braxston Cataldi and Maliek Clarke all singled to help support FOPA's explosive offensive attack.

The 16-13 win pushed FOPA's season record to 4-3 as they hope to make a push for the postseason. Congratulations to all the kids on a fantastic effort and FOPA will look to extend their winning streak on Wednesday May 23rd against Brookfield Gold at Wengler Field!

May 15th at Hermitage Orioles

Nick Blystone and Marcel Austin combined on a 1 hitter and shut down the Hermitage Orioles on May 15th 2012. Marcel picked up the win in relief while striking out seven and allowing only one baserunner during his 3 plus innings of work. FOPA was in control throughout the contest and left Hermitage with a solid 7-3 win.

At the plate for FOPA, Marcel Austin Doubled and Tripled while knocking in two runs, Caleb Fritch Tripled and Singled, Nick Blystone collected a double and two singles, and Jamar Leak scored 2 runs while adding a single.

Marcel Austin led FOPA to their third win of the season, his efforts on the mound and at the plate kept FOPA alive in the playoff chase. Congratulations to FOPA on a fantastic win!

May 9th at Hermitage Blue Jays

FOPA rolled into Hermitage on a chilly Wednesday night and came out with a decisive victory over the Blue Jays. The 14-3 victory improved FOPA's record to 2-2 on the season. Kolton Eckles (1-1) fired a complete game, 4 hitter while shutting down the Blue Jays and earning his first win on the mound this season. Kolton struck out six, but even more impressively walked only 2 Blue Jays during his four stellar innings of work.

At the plate for FOPA, Nick Blystone knocked in 2 runs with a double, Kolton Eckles tripled while Lamar Wilder and J.R. Stephenson both added singles. Offensively, FOPA had contributions from all around. C.J. Parchman scored 3 runs while reaching base 4 times, Maliek Clarke reached base 3 times and scored twice, Braxston Cataldi scored twice, Marcel Austin, Caleb Fritch and Corey Tidswell all added RBI's to pace the FOPA attack.

Defensively, FOPA played their best game of the season. Great defense from Kolton Eckles, Caleb Fritch, Marcel Austin and Nick Blystone was the true key to winning this game for FOPA. At 2-2 FOPA is managing to keep themselves in the hunt as we head into the second quarter of the season. Kolton Eckles was awarded the game ball for his outstanding efforts for FOPA.

Game Suspended Due to Lightning

The game between FOPA and the Lube last night was suspended during the bottom of the 4th inning with the Lube leading FOPA 11-5. A severe thunderstorm rolled through the area last night causing this matchup to be suspended. It will be continued and completed prior to the May 27th game scheduled for 6 PM.

FOPA was working on a late inning rally when the thunder and lightning made their presence felt. The game was called with 2 outs in the bottom of the 4th, bases were loaded and Marcel Austin was coming to the plate. We've seen it before from these kids from FOPA and I wouldn't count them out when this game is resumed on May 27th.

Augie Volpe did a fantastic job umpiring behind the plate. I personally would like to make a recommendation to have Augie work more games behind the plate. He thoroughly enjoys himself out there and his commitment level can not be matched. No one does a better job and no one looks better doing it!!! Thanks for putting the time in Augie, great job!

April 30th at Brookfield Gold

FOPA fell to 1-2 after Brookfield Gold handed them an 8-0 defeat. A stellar pitching performance by Gold Ace Vadala kept FOPA off balance and also off the scoreboard. Brookfield Gold pitchers combined to toss a no-hitter and were in control of the contest throughout.

Kolton Eckles took the loss for FOPA but he turned in three solid innings on the mound. Kolton fanned 4 batters but didn't receive much defensive or offensive support behind him. FOPA couldn't muster a single hit and only had one runner reach second base. Braxston Cataldi, Lamar Wilder and Kevin Scharba all reached base on walks and were the highlights of FOPA's non-existent offensive attack.

Caleb Fritch fanned 3 batters in relief, but it was Brookfield's 13 strikeouts that had FOPA confused and baffled throughout the contest. FOPA must regroup quickly for their upcoming matchup with Quaker Steak & Lube on Friday night!

April 29th vs Whalen Law

FOPA evened their season record at 1-1 by defeating Whalen Law in spectacular fashion. Facing defecits of 5 to 1, 9 to 3 and 11 to 5, FOPA never gave up and battled back to upend Whelan Law 15-12 on a beautiful Sunday afternoon at North Sharon Field. The comeback was paced by C.J. Parchman who shut down the Whelan offensive attack with his arm while boosting FOPA's offensive attack with his bat. C.J. relieved Marcel Austin in the third frame and never looked back, he scattered 2 hits while striking out 7 en route to his first victory of the season. Nick Blystone came in during the 6th inning to close out Whalen and picked up his first save of the 2012 season.

At the plate, Kolton Eckles was a monster! He tallied three key hits in three plate appearances. Kolton's single, double and triple knocked in 4 FOPA runs and led to Kolton scoring 3 times. Marcel Austin and C.J.Parchman both notched two singles at the plate while Nick Blystone added a triple that he ultimately scored on due to his grit, determination and well...momentum! Caleb Fritch, Kevin Scharba and Lamar Wilder also singled for F.O.P.A who managed to light up the scoreboard by scoring 15 runs on 11 hits.  Maliek Clarke contributed to the victory by knocking in a run and theiving three bases.

Defensively, FOPA was led by Blystone, Parchman, Scharba and Corey Tidswell who all made key defensive plays to keep FOPA within striking distance. Caleb Fritch also turned in a solid effort behind the plate.

For Whalen, Loughry and Braylon Hawkins pitched well in defeat. Loughry ripped a single and a triple while Nate Yingling tripled to boost Whalen's offensive attack.

It was an encouraging win for FOPA and they are hoping to continue this success Monday night in Brookfield!
